Let your leadership philosophy shape your actions and empower you and your team.
Our trainer is Sheri Jones, Chief Deputy Clerk, US District Court, Northern District of Alabama and Colonel (Retired), US Air Force
Sheri has over twenty-three years of experience managing federal legal offices, court dockets, and enterprise-wide process improvement programs with high-performing teams executing goals based on well-defined and articulated goals. She is currently a senior-level executive manager of 53 professional staff overseeing multiple administrative divisions including budget, finance, procurement, HR, space and facilities, internal controls, and Employment Dispute Resolution. Sheri supports 15 federal judges across 7 geographical divisions. She also supervises court reporters, coordinates the Criminal Justice Act panel, and is the primary liaison to the U.S. Marshall Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office, U.S. Federal Public Defender’s Office, and the General Services Administration (GSA).
Session Description
Through discussion and thoughtful application, you will define and develop a leadership philosophy as the compass for your actions and decision making. You’ll then create a real, practical plan to integrate your leadership philosophy into your day-to-day professional life that will shape your actions and empower yourself and your team.
In the first part of the training, you will:
- Understand why defining your individual leadership philosophy is critical to your organization’s success
- Learn how to define your own philosophy
- Learn how to develop a leadership philosophy that is easily communicated to your team and broadly applicable, and
- Learn practical steps on how to integrate your leadership philosophy into your organization’s decision making, problem solving, and positions on critical issues
Take aways – Participants will 1) write a basic draft of your individual leadership philosophy, 2) understand how to further develop your leadership philosophy into an actionable plan, and 3) build 2-3 actionable steps to integrate your philosophy into professional day-to-day interactions with your team to build cohesion.
In the second part of the training, you will:
- Understand how a leader’s willingness to be vulnerable and show care to your colleagues builds cohesive and inspired teams
- Learn practical steps on how to show vulnerability and teach from that vulnerability
- Learn practical steps of how to show care to your team and teach from that care
- Learn how vulnerability and care empowers your team, and
- Learn practical steps on how to empower your team.
Take aways – Participants will understand how the basic social skills we learned in kindergarten are key to building cohesive, principle-driven teams by 1) understanding how to demonstrate appropriate vulnerability to develop trust, 2) knowing how to care for colleagues, both personally and professionally, and 3) knowing how to empower teams through vulnerability and caring.
